![]() ![]() George du Maurier (1834 1896) was a Franco-British cartoonist and writer, known for his work in Punch and for his Gothic novel Trilby, which featured the character Svengali. Illustrated with duotone drawings by the author. A carefully used copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear and minor flaws. Du Maurier’s novel would itself be adapted for the silver screen in 1914 or rather, the stage adaptation of the original novel would be adapted. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. Trilby appeared shortly before the invention of cinema, which would take the ‘adaptation that becomes more successful than the book’ to a whole new level. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text, but some pencil notations at the rear endpapers. Very Good: shows slight spine lean several pencil marks at the bottom edge of the textg block mild rubbing and very faint soiling a hint of sunning to the red background field of the backstrip (the black titles thereon are unaffected: bold and clearly legible the binding is secure the text is clean. ![]()
